What is the MAU Mentorship program and am I the right fit?
-
Supporting entrepreneurs, investors and/or youth from the African diaspora with regular one-on-one mentoring and technical assistance
-
Contribute at least 4-6 hrs per month per client to meet in-person or Zoom. You may schedule meetings with your client in a way that fits both of your schedules. We welcome an ongoing relationship after that!
-
Leverage your expertise in your field to provide both mentoring and technical assistance during your meetings. All fields and expertise welcome, we will aim to match you with the right client who is looking for support in your area.
-
Anyone can become an MAU volunteer if you have work, business experience or expertise and are willing to share your knowledge, whether you’re a retired individual, business owner, or working professional.
How does the Mentorship program fit in with MAU's Activities?
MAU’s vision is to improve the quality of lives of Africans in Minnesota. Our mission to achieve this vision is to serve as a coalition for the African diaspora in the State to close the gaps in employment, economy, education and healthcare.

Among our many programs, we are achieving this mission with our current Small Business Assistance Partnership with the support of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and SCORE. We offer a collection of training series that:

-
Train emergent or established entrepreneurs in all industries with the tools they need to establish and grow their business.
-
Provide individuals looking to invest in real estate with the foundation for creating and growing their assets and generational wealth.
-
Offer youth (age 13-21) who are interested in pursuing careers in digital marketing and media with an introduction to this field and ways to leverage their talents to find career and business venture opportunities.

Our clients go through a 4-6 week training series and greatly benefit from a mentor who meets with them outside of the training course to help define their goals, create action plans, and get encouragement and advice during their journey. They also benefit from the technical assistance that can be provided from a mentor through provision of information, tools, resources and personalized technical guidance. Take a look at some of our Training Series events.
